Over the Counter Yeast Infection Treatments: Good or Bad

There is a great deal of debate when it comes to over the counter yeast infection treatments.  There is a lot to be said, depending upon your stance, preferences and experience, but for the most part, the arguments come down to effectiveness and convenience.

Many people don’t realize over the counter yeast infection medications used to be prescription.  This is important to note because of safety.  Just because something is over the counter does not mean it is safe.  You have to follow the directions exactly and review all the warnings and, of course, the ingredients.  Undoubtedly, most treatments you can buy at the store have some degree of effectiveness.  No matter which one you choose, you should still run it by your doctor first, as each formulation is different.  If your yeast infection is severe and includes your mouth and other tissue linings, you may need a prescription after all.  Obviously, if this is the case then your doctor must be consulted.
